Joy Buolamwini founded The Algorithmic Justice League, a nonprofit that uses art and research to illustrate the social implications and harms of artificial intelligence. Her MIT thesis methodology uncovered skin type and gender bias in commercial AI services and was the subject of the Netflix documentary “Coded Bias.” Buolamwini currently serves on the Global Tech Panel to advise world leaders on AI.

Buolamwini holds a doctorate in philosophy and a master's degree in algorithmic bias from MIT, a master's in education from the University of Oxford, and a bachelor's in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
